A Calgary dayhome operator has been found guilty of
assaulting two children in her care.
Victoria Tammam, 56, was charged with three counts
of assault in March 2007 after two families took their
children to the Alberta Children's Hospital. A 13-month-old
girl had a broken arm and a 17-month-old boy had a bruised
and swollen face.
A four-year-old boy told police Tammam had slapped
him because he wasn't sleeping at nap time.
Defence lawyer Noble Shanks maintained throughout the
trial that there was reasonable doubt about how the
children were injured.
Tammam, who ran the unlicensed child care service out
of her home in Silver Springs, testified that the boy
bruised his own face by banging it against his crib.
Justice Jo'Anne Strekaf handed down guilty verdicts
Thursday on two counts of assault, and dismissed a third
one.
Tammam fought back tears as the judge read her decision.
She will be sentenced in August.
