REGINA -- A 58-year-old Wadena-area man has been charged with possessing and making available child pornography following a five-month-long police investigation.

According to a news release issued by the RCMP on Friday, the man, who wasn't identified, was arrested after Yorkton and Wadena RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the Wadena district on Thursday. Computer and video equipment as well as several firearm-related items were seized.

In addition to the pornography charges, the man is also charged with weapons offences.

The investigation was initiated by the Saskatchewan Police Service's child exploitation unit.

The RCMP declined to release further information about the investigation while the matter is before the court.
